Youth Poetry Contest: Call for Entries

You are invited to participate in our Annual Poetry Contest.  We love to recognize our local youth and young adult poets!  Submissions will be accepted at LCL locations. Age categories are K-5, 6-8 and 9-12. Please see below for submission guidelines. Winners will be celebrated at our awards ceremony on April 19 at 6:30pm. Deadline for submission is March 22.

Attention Grades K-12 Youth:

April is National Poetry Month and to celebrate Licking County Library is sponsoring a poetry contest for students in grades K through 12. We would like to invite you to participate in the contest. Students may submit poems through their teachers, youth workers or directly to the Library. Judges are selected from among language arts professionals and librarians in the community.

Entries are being accepted from March 1 through March 22, and winners announced by April 12. Visit the Youth Services Department of the Main Library after judging to view a display of all entries. Prize winners are invited to the Poetry Contest Celebration on April 19 at 6:30 pm in the Main Library’s Meeting Room A.


· Entries must be neatly printed by hand or typed. Submissions must fit on one 8.5” x 11” sheet of paper.

· Attach the student’s full name and contact information to the entry. First name only on the front of the entry; please do not write on the back. Emailed submissions accepted. Student’s information can go into the body of the email.

· The poems may be on any topic, but the Library has the right to refuse an entry that is in bad taste or too mature for the intended audience.

· Entries become the property of Licking County Library and will not be returned.
