To kick off this month's featured location, Mary E. Babcock Library, we have an introduction from Julie McElhaney, Branch Supervisor. Julie is a lifelong library customer who found her calling as a children’s librarian 21 years ago. She grew up in Pemberville, Ohio, graduated from Ohio University, spent a few years figuring out what she wanted to do when she grew up, and then went on to earn her degree in Library Science from Kent State University. Before moving to central Ohio in 2006, Julie worked in northwest Ohio at the Weston Public Library, then the Holland branch of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library system.
“I thoroughly enjoy supervising the Mary E. Babcock Branch. Johnstown is a friendly, supportive community and reminds me of my hometown,” she says. “Our library is a place where all are welcome. We have a wonderful, caring staff, and I love that we know most of our customers by name. We are busy year round, but in the summer the branch draws large crowds for performers and the annual Babcock Bash. We strive to meet our customer’s intellectual and entertainment needs.”
In her spare time, Julie enjoys traveling, camping, hanging out with her husband and daughter, and fiddling with silly games on her phone.
